Here's an old photo.... it's the class unit for the Seaboard Coast Line GP38-2 class: # 500 It is a "late" unit, as the top light (normally an oscilliating Mars light) has been removed and plated over.

The 500 class went on to be the 2500 class in the Seaboard System era (and later CSX)

    Nice shot Harold!

I always wondered why they had plated over the lights above the cab windows. And I've even seen some that had the nose light plated over... any reasons to why?

Some units had the Gyralite above the front windshield, while some had them in the nose. It is kind of like the marker light era on CSX... once the decision was made to remove them, they were removed and the openings plated over.

Makes sence Harold. I wondered alittle why some CSX loco's had the cab lights plated over, and then others had the nose lights plated over... Made me wonder alittle! But this clears up some. It was a "CSX" company desicion! But if you look back on the older paint jobs and all you'll see the same type loco, GP-38's one time with the cab lights plated over, then on another GP-38 the nose lights were plated over. same with GP-40's and even SD-40's and a few SD-45's.... Being I've modeled a few of each of them.. And noticed those small differences...
