OK Guys, my five year old has built his first "boxcar" from scratch. He chose an old HO caboose chassis (note the horn and hook couplers) from my spares box and aside from helping him cut the wood he constructed the whole thing...with some guidance. At this rate maybe I should get him into a model building program! BTW, I tried to get him to build a roof but he insists that sand paper IS the proper roof J
Cool! That car will have more meaning and memories as time goes on than any store bought box car. Keep it and treasure it and congratulations to you and your son. A fine team effort. And they say our hobby is dying, NOT. Greg
Looks pretty good. Keep it updated with weathering, more paint, etc. Most importantly, just keep it! Try to place it on the layout in a siding, even if you don't operate it; visitors will ask questions, for sure. I have my first Lionel and it still reminds me of good, good times.
Thanks guys, he is really proud of it. It currently is sitting on the turn table of module 1 and will definately be on the layout for good. My other son, Sean, has now completed two scratch built, all wood flatcars (already discussed in earlier threads). Even if they drift away from modeling in their teens, it is my hope that these great memories will bring them back when they are older. J
