Ummmm. Hopefully tomorrow you won't discover that a slight change here, small tweak there and suddenly you are started on Plan 6c? :D

    But that's the fun part!

Heck, I have multiple numbers and letters in my track plan revisions: 12.9C

If your track planning software allows running trains on it, that helps. I use XTrackCAD, which does (and the price is right: $free.) But then laying it down on the train table/benchwork always brings more tweaks in 1:1 (or should I say 160:1?)

I don't think so, My health is slowing me down to much to tear this one down and start all over again. I like how this one came out. I know that SCARM don't have trains running on it, But i have tried a few other planners. Jake, XTrackCAD Was one i tried. Scarm is pretty good for my needs. It isn't really the plan as it is tweaks. Most were minor. I did two changes to this plan after i started to lay down track. The only thing i would have liked was a longer plan say 5-6 foot longer, but don't have the room so i stick with what i have. I am paying for what i did yesterday. Just have a hard time with pain. I would just like to finish all the scenery before i die or whatever. Someone down the road will have a fairly good model to work with. Deb has told me she would take care and sale to someone that really liked the plan and all that goes with it. Engines and cars and whatever else it has at that time. I hope its awhile before that happens, but you just never know, right? Anyway i am not doing anything today unless I can feel better. Laters

I did try and darken the poly more. It is drying so i can pickup and put on the mountain. Not sure if i will get this done today or not. It is what it is. Shots below. The lighting is throwing the color off. I will try and make better.

I know what you mean! My wife helped me in the shop (garage) today, to cut up a sheet of plywood into the pieces for a base for my HCD layout-in-progress (she does not like the two B&D Workmates under it in her living room now, go figure...) I had planned to make it out of 1/2" plywood, but Home Depot turned out not to have any, and filled my pick-up order with a sheet of 3/4" for same price (with my consent.) I probably could have handled the half-inch by myself, but the three-quarter inch stuff is just too heavy. Alas, they were also out of all three thicknesses of pink foam insulation board (1/2, 1 and 2-inch thickness) I wanted. I'll have to go get that at another HD that has far more in stock.

My daughter's boyfriend is coming home with her next week for a visit, and, well, you probably know the drill... (check/clean the guns, confirm ammo supply, ...) Just kidding! We met him when we visited her over Memorial Day weekend, and he seems to be a good fit for her.

I think i got my camera fixed. I need a new battery so i will be getting one soon. I am playing with the 3 cell emergency battery while waiting. Wish the Batterys Plus was still here,(closed). My Nikon is a D70. Its 17 years old but has always given me good pictures. Got all the moneys in the layout and Debs crafts so no new camera in my future. I am having to set it up again as it hasn't been used in around 5 years. With Battery total discharge no less. I have been using my phone and or tablet for the layout or other photos as needed. Once i can get the camera settings made i can start using it again for here. Laters

I need to work with settings to get it better. I used it when i had earlier layouts and the pictures were much better. I had Muddy shots at first and changing settings helped a lot so far. It can get better because i had it that way before. Also the trees were in focus and the buildings were slightly out of focus. More work to get the buildings in sharp and the trees out of focus somewhat. Reverse what the picture was. This camera is lighter than the tablet is. Mine is a 12 inch model and hard to handle to do videos and stills. This camera is capable of video. Going back to older pictures you can see how that camera worked. It is just so much easier to use. New battery coming so i should have it in a couple of days. Then i can take my time and get the settings correct. A shot below

My first DSLR was a D70. I still have it but I've upgraded to a D300 and now a D500. The D70 was a great camera. Let me know if you need any help.

    Here's a shot from my D70, 18-70 kit lens.

MK, Thats what i was using. I also have a couple of other lenses for it. It seems to not like led lighting. Gives a bit off colors and not as crisp detail
    Here is a couple more

If you are going for scenic effect of focusing on a specific shot, like the camp, the pic in your 4:36 post is good. If showing off the whole scene, the first pic in the post preceding it was best. [to me anyway]

I think you do too! Those look really good. Color saturation and the depth of view are both very nicely balanced.

It looks like you are using the onboard flash on the D70. It's tricky with that since layouts tend to be broader than what the flash can cover and you can see the light fading on the right in your second picture (#3180) above. If you have a tripod, try taking a photo without the flash and just let the camera figure out the setting. It'll be a slow shutter shot so you need the tripod.

A few things to think about. You can move the focus point on the D70 so it will focus on where you want on the picture. If there's an area where the focus point doesn't cover, put the focus point on that area, half press the shutter so it locks it, then move the camera to re-compose the shot.

Second is exposure. All your shots except one are a little dark. What is happening is that there's a lot of light colored scenery, especially the white mountain. Since these areas dominate, the camera exposes for that, making the rest of the shot dark'ish. In the one shot where you don't have a white mountain (#3176) you have the light colored wall which causes the same effect.

There are many ways to correct for this but the easiest without going into all the nitty gritty is add a +0.3 or +0.7 exposure compensation. It's the +/- button to the right of the shutter button. This is for your shots with or without flash.
