Does doesn't it... Now is rebuilding! Thank God it was just the lower level. I think if it was both levels i would have pulled everything i could and trash the rest and start over!
I got it all back down. I am beat, been fighting that part of the layout for what 3-4 days. Tomorrow i take a break and then Monday i can finish clean-up and start over with scenery! Good night all, Dan
Have run a loco on it and so far, no issues. Still have to fix the stains that came off or was scraped off because it was all loose from the alcohol soaking. Shots below, Dan
Can be lots of fun too at times!! This wasn't one of them. Have three shots of it now. Looks better but the alcohol bath did quite a bunch of damage. Black cinders mixed with Brown, green and whatever else was there. I had a couple of the wood structures come apart so they were fixed with super glue. What a mess!! Later, I am going to get back at it, Dan
Wow. That was a mess. I am NOT even a little bit jealous. Nope. Am sincerely glad you got it fixed and things up and running again.
I am waiting for stuff to get here from mail order. There is no hobby store other than Hobby Lobby and they don't have very much at all. Twice i went there and came back out empty. I am using mail-order to fill my needs. Poor Mike must wonder if i am some kind of nuts. The closest hobby store is Fort Worth or San Antonio. Thats over 100 miles away both ways. a 200 mile trip is not gonna work for just some needs that won't come to less than say 70 bucks. I can pay 10 bucks or so and get it here in a few days. Sucks really. So i wait.....
I hear ya! My LHS is in Billings, 230 miles one way. There is a guy in Terry, but he is only an order spot that gets some Christmas stock. The occasional stop in yields maybe one item a year. Jim's Junction in Billings always has tuff, too much stuff!
Its so funny that those two and Houston have so many hobby stores and Austin don't. Waco, Temple..nope. There is a train club in Temple but no hobby store. They do the same as me or someone makes a special trip to fort worthless.
And none I know of in North Dakota at all. Bismarks shop is a game shop now.....Heck, Minneapolis is only a ten hour drive.....
Did make some progress. Ordered more ballast and cut the pieces for the crossing and did a bit of scenery.
I think that the on-line stores are putting the small ma and pa shops out of business. Some have gone to mail order and i do that with one fellow. I just hope Mike won't get tired of small stuff ordered. Have two more pieces to make for the crossing. I plan to use some 3m spray to place them temp and run a engine over it and see if anything hangs it up. If good i will use another glue to finish it. Need to weather it as well. Seems like i am weathering a lot lately....
I did more scenery today. Had a nice visit with family today too!! Haven't seen much of my family in a long time. Now that i am in the area it feels good to have them around me once again. I grew up with my sisters kids and as the youngest uncle in the family, there are more like brothers than nephews. Sorry, just rambling..... Shots below, Dan
Had to take my old 4-6-0 out of the shipping box as that little 4-4-0 was starting to act up. It is dc and the layout is all dcc. Hope i didn't cook it. I got the ballast in yesterday afternoon so i have things to do on the layout. I made a short video of the train on the main tracks. The engine seems to keep speeding up. I think it is the dcc chipset in it. I keep having to slow the thing down. Most of the rods are missing off it as it hit the deck and they are what seems to break off all the timeLink below, Dan
Thanks, That engine hit the deck a couple of weeks ago. I am sending it back to Bachmann when i have some other engines. I got a kit of a Climax thats heading here. Should think i can have it together by Christmas. Hope the Atlas Shays will be here in the first quarter of 2016.
I was getting some flack back a bit ago of them not using gravel on logging roads. While my layout is somewhat like they were back in the day, the U-Tube link i have here shows where i worked for awhile and in it it shows the roadbed on it. It also shows the round logs under the track. I also liked where it run down right through the creek bed! Its a old photo and before my time as we had diesels when i was young and later when i worked there. The sawmill closed in 1975. Was a shame! I still love the smell of fresh cut lumber.Go to the link and scroll down to the area that says about the trains. The u tube is there. A lot of history about the area i lived and worked at there http://www.rainelle-wv.com/history/
Nice video link! Wow! They just boogied avross that ramshackle track over/through the creek! ( at about 1:30 and 4:05)
