Thanks Tad. It certainly has been fun building (except for the 2nd from left LED, which gave me no end of grief). The photos show a couple spots where I really need to do some touch up, and that one pillar which decided to lean. Don't really see them in "real scale". Now to clean up, and run some trains! Going to keep things simple for a few weeks, not start anything new. Will be leaving in 2 weeks for a vacation, so won't start next phase until back in late Feb.
Nice job on the station platform Rick!:thumbs_up: Love the posters and wall / floor brick work. This is a really nice scene with the ceiling lights and people. Small details sure make for a great appearance. Jerry
Thanks Jerry -- feels good to be basically "finished" with it. Of course, I had to get that done, so I could get back to ballasting and finishing the roundhouse area above it. But, as I said above, all that will wait.
Rick: You did a fantastic job designing and finishing the station. Very well done.:thumbs_up:
Agreed, excellent job on the station. Exactly how I imagined doing such a scene! Hmm.. I wonder how hard animated escalators would be? Keep up the great stuff Rick! There's a bunch of 5 star threads popping up and I think this will become one of them very soon.
Thanks Mark & Mark! Mark W: as you probably remember, we did discuss escalators, but I just couldn't figure out a good way to do them. So, the escalators to the concourse level are where the photos are taken. Will need to add some additional signage, like "To Concourse", etc. Wondering if I should post some small signs on some of the pillars, too. (But those touches can wait). I was also going to put i-beams in, spanning pillar to pillar, but decided that was overkill.
Maybe you've said... Who makes the stone walls in the AWESOME station? Great thread thanks, keep it up.
The flooring is Evergreen 4501 1/16" tile The back wall is Plastruct PS-64 Random Coursed Stone Sheet. I used washes of UP light gray, earth and mineral red to produce the coloring Edit: I used a rail-tie brown wash, not earth, as my middle wash. These weren't that diluted, since the styrene doesn't "stain". Basically, would soak the brush in windshield-wiper solution, then dabbed the paint, and smeared. Would add a little more solution, or paint, as I worked it. And, if it got too thick, IPA on a paper towel to wipe off. In reality, only took a few minutes. I did the whole sheet at once, and then cut the strips that I needed.
WOW very cool. Now how does that GS 4 run? I am still stuck in the 80's mindset that N scale steam runs clunky. But I love the looks of your layout and would love to run steam but thats what keeps me from taking the N scale plunge lol.
The Kato GS-4, with Tsunami, runs and sounds like a dream. You can crawl along on speed step 1, or sail through the layout at 40/50%. I also love my Kato Mikado, but haven't installed DCC in it, yet. Runs great on DC. To really see n-scale steam, check out PowerSteamGuy1790's JJJ&E thread
I'm Back! Just a thread bump to let people know I didn't disappear from the face of the earth. Had a 10-day vacation to, of all places, Colombia! Bogota, Cartagena and Parque Tayrona (near Santa Marta) on the Caribbean coast. Not many trains, but a very beautiful country, lots of nice people, and a fantastic time in the forest in the park. Now that I'm home, back to my trains.... and something else. Oh yeah, work.
Thanks Mark. I get to see how the new BLI E8A/B which came while I was gone work, later today. Right before I left, I did add some more people into the station. Will post some photos, too.
