Wow! It's been awhile since I've posted anything about the layout, but there's a reason for that.

After getting the static grass down in Malvern back in May, I put the layout on hold as I planned to get started on my Kitchen remodel.

About the same time I was asked to help a customer out in his shop as he got behind with a huge work load and he lost his helper. I agreed to help and the next thing I know it was November!
The work load just kept ramping up due to not getting the proper info on several cabinet jobs from the customers, everything got backed up. But the we finally got things pretty well under control and back to a manageable pace. So I decided it was time to tackle the kitchen cabinets.

While this is not train related, it is the reason why nothing has been done to the layout since May. :(

At the beginning of December after getting the plans finalized I got started on the cabinets and thought I'd post the process on my blog. If you like woodworking, I thought you might enjoy this.

Beautiful cabinets Allen, can you come over and straighten up my kitchen?

Argh. I can see why you decided to remodel. You'd certainly had your money's worth from the old kitchen!

20 minutes to make 15 drawer boxes, good Lord does it pay to have the right toys. I mean tools. ;-)

    Hmmm? Could possibly do that.
Maybe I'll bring along my fleet and you can weather my stuff while I straighten up your cabinets? :D

Well that's actually about 20 minutes to just glue and assemble the 15 drawers in the clamp and stack them.
To saw the parts, dove the parts, then glue, clamped and stacked, takes about 15-20 minutes per drawer.
I think I spent about 4-5 hours to get them to this point. I still have to sand and route them before finishing them.

But it still beats using a hand saw! (y)

That many by hand would be 4-5 days for me, lol.

    Happy New Year all!

Took advantage of the holiday and make some great progress on my cabinet doors and drawer fronts.

    A New Kitchen part 4

The sooner I get this project done, the sooner I can get back to the layout

Nice supply of pipe clamps! That shop is a model railroaders dream for making good benchwork. :)

I can't begin to tell you how many modules and portions of layouts I've built in that shop since the late 80's ;)
It was my fathers shop from 74-91

One can never have too many pipe clamps.

How much longer until you are once again totally free to work on the model railroad? Perhaps before winter ends?

    Yup, that is my goal.
I'm hoping to have things wrapped up by spring at the latest.
The trouble is I'm helping out at another shop who has lost his helper and can't find anyone to replace him.
So I've been helping him during the day [getting paid for it] and then working on my stuff and my jobs in the evenings and weekends, which makes for slow progress on the cabinets.

Pretty good stuff! I'm still building with handtools. Not as fast but I can get stuff done. If I was closer I'd come over and get in the way and help out.

Gee Art! Between your offer to help and BC's 25 hour day, I should be done in no time! lol

Hey. I can do that , too! Maybe if we both show up, it will be so helpful that Allen might finish by the year 2050?
