    Thought I'd share my layout design with y'all. It's an On30 scale mining operation with a distillery and a hotel.

    Here is the track plan.

    A friend did the graphics and the track design was done with XtrCad.

    As you progress, let's see some construction pictures!

    BTW- I like how you have it set up for a loop of continuous running.

    Out-and-back with a continuous-run option - pretty typical for narrow-gauge modelling, because it's fine for light traffic. Good amount of switching. The very tight curves (18") won't be a problem, because commercial equipment is made for them. The steep grades are reasonable for this sort of mining line. Three trestles on convex curves... Some modellers would call it overuse of cliched scenery. Don't listen to them.

    I like the plan. There is something to this shape that keeps coming back to me... must be a sign!
    Looks like a great track plan.

    Looks like a great plan to me!

    Three big trestles + an option for continuous running... can't beat that :)

    The grades do look a bit steep though. But running short trains and *gasp* helpers could make for some interesting operations.

    Good luck with it!

    Thanks for the comments guys! I have tested all my motive power on the grades listed and the only one that demonstrated any hesitation on a 6% grade was my Bachman 2-6-0 pulling three passenger coaches. The Shays and Climaxes love that grade, and the 0-4-2 can handle the little ore cars on that grade just fine. The Rail Truck acts like its a flat run, lol.

    Some more info on the railroad;
    The tracks at the far left at the passenger station will be dual gauge and I plan on sitting some O scale passenger cars there for looks. At the bottom right, the three tracks going into the tunnel will tunnel thru the wall into a closet for staging. The two perpendicular trestle bridges on the right go over what is now my computer desk, havent decided to give up the desk and landscape the whole thing or not, but its about a 2.5 foot deep gorge at the moment. I think it would be nice to sit at my computer and watch the trains go by [IMG] .
    Thanks again for the comments!

    Haha! I wish! Right now it's just a figment of my imagination, but rest assured if you wanted to come by and help with assembly I'm sure I could provide something to wet your whistle!
