Didn't want to open a new ATK thread, but need to vent. Used to be that Amtrak's website offered easy-to-find timetables in pdf format, but they're gone as best I can find. In their place is a dumbed down where-do-you-want-to-go-and-from-where fill in the blank "Create your personalized timetable" page with one origin and one destination. Used to be that with one timetable document you could see all the options. I guess that is no longer convenient for modern travelers.
I agree. If I want to get a video I have to guess. Oddly, 'Alexa' if asked properly can give me a list of trains leaving South Station, Boston but you must phrase it perfectly.
It's like what's being done with computers and their operating systems: make things harder to find so it's easier to use... For someone uninterested in making the effort to arrange things themselves, putting their trust in the machine at the other end of the button pushes, it's fine. But for someone who likes to do the job using their brains and their own ideas, it's h-e-double-hockey-sticks. Progress doesn't always mean things get better.
It's frustrating my research. I just read that Amtrak has combined the Silver Meteor (runs on the ACL) with the Silver Star (runs on the SAL) for a combined "Super Star" (nickname) running on the SAL. I'd like to see if the Meteor is even listed anymore, or if ATK is now dependent on the Palmetto to serve ACL points north of Savannah. Now how can I ask that of a stupid fill-in-the-blank screen?
I'm guessing you found this already but: @Hardcoaler Does this help? https://amtrakguide.com/tips/how-to-use-google-maps-for-amtrak-directions/
I would bet that someone in their HQ believes this stupid idea saves them money. I have looked a couple of times at potential trip. When I cannot find their TT and have to do their work for them, I just leave their page. Driving is faster, cheaper and much easier.
