The Milwaukee Road Vol 5 Pacific Extension 1941-1961

I just picked up a book at a train show, when I first seen the price, I thought, "dream on". Since it was not sealed I naturally picked it up a leafed through it. All high quality color pictures dating from 1940's through to around the 1960's, most seem to be dated in the 50's.
I have never seen these pictures anywhere else, and unlike most pictures and video's that I have seen of the MILW,(PCE) which show a "dying" railroad, (bad track, rough looking equipment etc), these pictures were taken when it appeared to be the "Golden Years" of the MILW, nicely maintained and ballasted track, clean locos etc. I put the book down and left, only to come back the next day and pick it up. Most because of what I explained earlier, the book reflected a modern railroad in its best of times.
It had several pictures of F-units in Harlow, which was very unusual. The description stated that because of a strike in the coal mines, the steamers were sitting cold and the diesels ran where they normally didn't go. Another oddity (to me) was the book kept referring to the Clark Fork as the "Missoula River". This may have been the case before my time (born in 1963)
I was hoping for some NMD pictures, it only had 2, around Lewistown. I like this book.

It is indeed worth having, if no other reason, for the pictures. There are many captioning errors. Which may or may not be attributed to it's author. Some may have been altered by the publisher.

I believe that the name Missoula River was used long ago. Not sure if it was ever made "official". But in relation to a time when the Milwaukee Road was around, I would have doubts.
