I've a couple of questions today. The Narragansett Pier RR was formed to operate a former NYNH&H line. I'd like to find out what the date was for the start of NPRR. And when was it abandoned? My next question, is about the Old Colony RR. I have a year of 1947 that it went into the New Haven. Does anyone have a month and day? Boxcab E50
Hmmmmmm.......... *NARRAGANSETT PIER RR (NARR)* I found the start date: 7/1876 OPERATED AS ELECTRIC RR FY 12-18 The only info on it's demise is sort of confusing: ACTIVE 1982** (CEASED '79) ??????? **(CONRAIL MAYBE???) *OLD COLONY RR* It had changed names and or owners quite a few times in it's day: OLD COLONY 11/1845-9/54 OLD COLONY AND FALL RIVER 9/54-1864 OLD COLONY AND NEWPORT 1864-10/72 OLD COLONY 10/1872-3/93 NEW HAVEN 3/1893 NEW YORK NEW HAVEN AND HARTFORD 10/1872-12/1968 PENN CENTRAL 12/68-4/1976 CONRAIL (UNSURE NOW WHO OWNS IT) info from RAILROAD NAMES pub:1982
Well..... I've been trying to go back through my notes. Find out why I had 1947 written down. Dunno how I managed that one! It makes no sense...... Thanks JT! I have many more questions, that will be posted in the coming days and weeks! Boxcab E50
I think the Old Colony is now owned by MBTA or at least is operated by them. I will have to check their web site.
Gil- Is the Bay Colony RR still around? Aren't they somewhat in the vicinity? Or am I thinking of a tourist RR that operates on some ex-OCRR tracks? Boxcab E50
