As some of you may know, I decided to stop messing around with the original area. I removed the walls and rearanged the recreational area. This took a little longer than planned - go figure. I negotiated with the family for space and basically the diagram below is what I am restricted to. and I do not think it is too small The outer grey lines are the finished walls, the green is what I think may be the benchwork outline. The red line is the no cross line. The double line on the right is an internal wall leading into the utility closet, my work bench and office is on the other side of this in a 7 ft * 8 ft area, I plan on running a program track into there with a loop and some staging/fiddle yard down the road. What do you think, this is a little bigger and will have to be built in stages, so I am looking once again for ideas. I am open to all your suggestionsincluding the benchwork plan. The plan is N scale, mix of Kato and Flex track, some industrial switching, a couple of yards and some elevation.
Owen: It looks like you have plenty of room for a great trackplan as long as you don't cross into the "Red Zone". Have fun designing the layout. Stay cool and run steam.....
Yeah, what happens if you cross the red line? BZZZZPT! what was that mommy? oh, nothing daddy just crossed the red line again
LOL - I should have reviewed this a little closer Beyond the Red Line is a Pool Table. I measured the length of a normal CUE and determined I needed to be about 55 to 60 inches away from the pool table. No BZZZZPT, but I wanted to avoid any unfortunate accidents to the pool cue, of course the layout and contents are of no concern - RIGHT
I love the idea of a multi use room. GREAT idea to keep the pool sticks away from the layout, that would have disaster writen all over it. However if you have the layout mounted higher than the pool table that shouldn't be an issue, but better safe than sorry.
Owen- I don't see a scale shown. But am guessing each square is one foot? If so, should be a fine opportunity. Let's see some track plan sketches! Boxcab E50
Each square is a foot. The area at the bottom is open to the rest of the rec room/ The area itself is about 8 ft *20 ft. Working on the track plan, lots to consider. This layout planning is not as simple as one would think. I am currently laying track sections down on a 30" * 6 ft folding table to experiment with different track ideas and towns and industries. I could probably write a book/article after all this. Maybe I should team up with Mark Tulip and a few others to do this.
Bob- Yes. I was asking about the scale he was using in his drawing. What each square represented. Boxcab E50
Will you be able to hang some kind of a curtain across the area to prevent the inevitable errant cue ball from striking the layout? I had this happen with an old HO layout and the amount of destruction caused by one pool ball careening through a layout is amazing. Or you could just explain the damage as a meteor strike.
