I know I've asked a question about the Q's pre merger scheme before, but that was a while ago. I'm curious about the SD45s and U23Cs. Were they factory painted in the "green hockey stick" paint? I saw that there's also a Q GP40 that got the same paint.
The SD45s and U23Cs were factory delivered in the hockey stick scheme, but these were delivered in 1969, so just prior to the merger. The GP40 was painted in 1967, as a test scheme for the new BN, however the scheme was only applied to passenger E and Fs.
I see that my typing skills aren't what they could be! I'd like to have a model of one of the Burlington "Hockey Stick" locos for my layout.
As long as you model 1969 or later, the SD45s and U23Cs were in hockey stick paint with just Burlington lettering under the cab.
I'm modeling just after the BN merger and just before the end of California Zephyr service. Maybe two weeks! lol
One might be able to take a pre-decorated BN loco and modify it enough to make the hockey stick scheme. I know the stripes are different on the nose so that would have to be re-worked. As long as it was a BN scheme with no number on the body (Atlas makes these) one should be able to make it work.
But Atlas doesn't make an SD45 or U23C, only the GP40, and its the rare unit in the group. Also be alot more work than just starting with an undec. Besides, Microscale makes the decals, http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2...ode=60-190&Category_Code=CBQ&Product_Count=44
