In 1979 a safety slogan contest was held by the Arkansas Division saftety committee of the MP railroad. A carman in Memphis,TN named David F. Newborne won the contest with his Herbie idea. The committee liked his slogan and artwork so much it was decided to paint it on a boxcar to tour the system. In May,1979 boxcar MP 129685 was spotted in front of the Memphis rip track and myself along with several other carmen painted the sides boxcar red.

David being a amateur artist painted the design on the side of the car. He is shown in the top picture standing next to the finished car. With the other two pics showing the paint job in progress.

This paint job didn't last long as North Little Rock,AR being the headquarters of the Arkansas Div. the idea/paint job not being "done here" rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way. The car was repainted with the same design in NLR.
