Without getting up and digging, instead of sleeping, did the Rio Grande have these cars? With either yellow, orange or red rotary ends. What number series? I know they had 5 with Blue rotary ends. Just not sure right now what else they had, if anything. I have close to 120 hoppers that I'm now thinking of adding Hay Bros flood load coal loads to. And probably some sort of renumber program to eliminate a few duplicate road numbers! Any information appreciated. Thanks.
1967 UP and Rio Grande had the Kiaser Coal trains. UP car series G-125-1. The Grande had cars 56995-56999, yellow end sheet on rotary coupler...Blue end DRGW series 5000-5119 these were built by Thrall in 1978, the Grande got them second hand...source Jim Eager's Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment... http://www.drgw.org/data/freight/1960/gons.htm This has more detailed information. Note this is ALL gondolas that the Grande owned...
Keith, Paul nailed it. onl5, but the rest were UP. You're prollynot gonna see that train on my layout as it originated in UT,a nd went west. Never polished Moffat rails unless it was delivered that direction. If the cars are rerun by Athearn, I will buy the 5 pack of the correct numbers. I balked as I had 25 PSCX, 20 NORX and 20 blue end DRGW cars on order at the time.
