I believe that we're all going through an evolutionary thing. Step back and take a long hard look at where we were in the late 1960's and early 1970's...not just N scale but all of the model train hobby. We've come a long way. Now imagine what people, say 50 years in the future, will say about our "crude" trains. Enjoy the ride...
Sorry, but don't I think my point was clear. Other manufacturers are producing truck mounted cars that are MUCH lower than MT because the box that houses the coupler is flush with the top of the bolster. If MT could create such a coupler, then they wouldn't have to body mount their couplers to get correct car heights. Of course, MT already HAS such a coupler, made to convert engines where the mounting hole is too low, but I can't get someone to think outside the MT box! :tb-biggrin: If you want to see an example, pick up an Atlas tank car.
1st: I would like to thank Joe from Micro-Trains for taking the time to respond. 2nd: I just cant believe that when a model train manufacturer finally gets up to date and offers a freight car with prototypical ride height and body mounted couplers (and that company is known for its truck mounted couplers and high ride height) that people respond something like this -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_3RCofj5wc&feature=related 3rd: The funniest post I have seen on this subject was reply #1 here -> http://therailwire.net/forum/index.php/topic,21954.0.html 4th: Times are really changing and I guess that its the truck mounted coupler fans turn to do the modifications to turn a body mounted into a truck mounted.
I see your point. Your point is well made and I agree. Typically, when I replace the older/original trucks with MTL's truck mounted couplers. I found that I would have to file down the car body, to make room. After experimenting with body mounted couplers, much to my satisfaction. I decided to body mount the couplers using MTL's #1015. I still replace the older/worn out trucks with MTL's product line. I happen to like MTL's products, using them almost exclusively.
