Rudimentary, I know, but...what is "tining" a soldering iron? How do you do it? Why do you do it? Thanks.
Flash: Tining the solder iron occurs when you wipe the tip of the soldering iron/gun with a wet sponge and then appply a fresh bead of solder on the iron. This keep the soldering iron/gun clean and enhances the ability to get a nice clean soldering joint when you use the iron. I have a Hako digital soldering unit and keep a wet sponge in a well on the unit. I wipe the soldering gun clean after each solder joint. This prevents the buildup of solder on the tip and extends the life of the soldering tip. Hope this helps you out. Stay cool and run steam........
