A friend brought me an O scale tinplate Loco to try and get running for him. It belonged to his father and was origionaly purchased about 1935. There are no manufacturer markings on it. On the side is printed "Comodore Vanderbilt" and on the nose under the light "New York Central".
If you have any info or further contacts you can e-mail me at millcstl1@mindspring .com.
I have digital photos for further ID if that would help.
    Thank you,
    Scott

Lionel had a Commodore Vanderbilt train from the 30's. American Flyer may have. Marx may have also. What did it have for power pick up, assuming it was three rail? Lionel had a pair of rollers on a sprung bracket, and Marx had a copper colored slider. Both would be between the drivers. Also, Marx's probably would have been stamped sheet metal while Lionel's was die cast. This is all from memory, so pictures would help.

Thanks for the replys gentelmen. I believe the loco turned out to be a Marx, it has the copper sheet slide center rail pickup.
By the way after a little cleaning and light lubrication it runs like a champ.
Hope I can be of help tp you sometime.
    Happy holidays,
    Scott
