I am looking for some information on what equipment was being used for TOFC in the early and mid 80's. Where they still just short flats and one trailer, or were they using the 89 foot cars already?

When did containers start becoming the popular mode of transportation for everything?

Is there a place where the history of trailers and containers can be found online? Such a site would be great.

Oh yeah, they were using 89'ers. They had been using them since at least the early 80's. [IMG]

IIRC, the first regular use 89ft flatcars were in use from 1963.
