Do they still have the big Western Maryland Shay? Is it operable?

I wonder if some day they might restore some of the old burned down mill complex?

That would be cool if they did. I went to visit cause my mother grew up in Cass. We went years ago and I remember riding the old steam train.

    Pics of the mill area...

Oooo. Hope you have some family photos. There could be some neat stuff there.

Sounds like you had a good time. As a steam nut, I really want to get to Cass, never been there. And yes, the "Big 6" operates there.

Does look like a wonderful outing, and the sound in person must be great as well.

Could someone confirm whether CSR is a "captive" railroad? Ie without any rail link to the remaining of US railroad network?

I thought they'd built or rebuilt a connection to CSX(?) some years back.

Hmmm. I was tracing it on Google back when the topic started. I erred, naming CSX, although it may be ex-CSX. But the outside connection I believe is at Spruce, with the West Virginia Central.
