    Hello fellow NYC fans.......

I'm looking for a good source of track arrangements of various yards, junctions, terminals, etc...which were part of the NYC system. Basically I would like to find prototype sources to help me with track planning for my pike........Any links, leads, references to materials would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Martin

Hi Martin, welcome to Trainboard! That's a tough order. I don't recall ever seeing track plans for the various yards, but there may be some in some back issues of the NY Central "Headlight," the publication of the NYCS Historical Society. Nowak's books have photos, not plans taken in some of the yards--there must be over 30 tracks in some of the ones that were in NY City. One suggestion would be to get on MapQuest, locate one of the still-existing yards like Buffalo, and get the aerial photo view of it. :D

Well, there is a map of the Big Four Avon Yard in 1988 on-line at the Railroads of Madison County site on the 2nd page of the Avon Yard Tour. Also under the Big Four (NYC) section in the Nav Bar is a section on Mechanical Drawings that have several yards shown. The entire Yard isn't there just the portion showing the various mechanical areas, depot, fuel repair, etc. and associated trackage. It's the nearest thing to full yard drawings that I have.

The Avon Yard map is pretty much the way it was in NYC days.
