I 've been looking but i have really found any thing on the diffrent tracks so I will ask .

ATM, I have bachmans EZ track but in the planning stages of my railroad . what are some good type of track and is it wise to use all one kind track with the formed ballast or with out the ballast.

my brother whos been at it alil longer than I have says EZ track is good but , one of the problems with most track that has the plastic roadbeds is that he has problems with the Trucks with Magne-Matic style couplers grabbing the roadbeds and derailing or uncoupleing the cars , Ive noticed on a lot of pics of model railroads useing this style of couplers , but due to detailing and other things its hard to tell what type of track they use .
what are some cures for this?
ATM im useing the ugly universal couplers but , they donot look very realistic .
and what are some of the tricks that are done to detail track IE painting the sides of rails ?
roadbeds, ties, and adding ballast ?

I know I'm asking a lot but I,m just starting out and it hard to sort threw all the information with out have any experience behind the information.

You have asked a lot of questions which will take some time to answer. the first thing I suggest you do is to look bacl at all the older topics in this forum and "The Inspection Pit" as all these questions have been previously asked and answered.

I prefer to use Atlas and Peco flexible track as I find this the best to use for curves etc. If you want to know about ballasting track you can visit my website and under the secenery link I explain how to add ballast.

I'm sure there are many other members here who can also assist you.

    Good luck :D

I use Peco code 55 flexible track and live frog turnouts. It is very robust and reliable track. Atlas now has, or is about to have code 55 track also. This size looks so much better than earlier code 80.

I paint the sides of rails a rust colour, which greatly adds to the realism.

Microtrains couplers are considered the standard these days, or some other makes of the same type, MUCH better than those ugly Rapido style ones [IMG]

As Paul says, have a look at earlier posts on this subject, to find out about ballasting, etc.

If you need any more help, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck with your layout [IMG]

Well i have looked at the other ofrums and this one completely Boy that was alot of info i asked more than i knew , most of the information was helpful ,,

but i have other questions that will have to wait while i digest this information ,

but now I m wondering if there are any model railroading clubs in my area.

As i have seen many things that I now have questions for and Im not sure of the proper wording to get the info that i need .

and it might be helpful so see some of these things in person , and see what they do and how they operate

When I took my plunge back into N scale, I started out using Atlas and Peco track and turnouts (mostly Peco turnouts). The code 55 track from Atlas hadn't come out yet, and the ME code 55 and Peco offerings were a bit pricey for me.

To hide the obvious height, I painted the sides of the rails, dry-brushed the ties with gray, and ballasted & sprinkled ground foam on the track. I'm using the ground foam to represent a weedy-looking short line...... Anywho, I was careful to keep the flangeways clear. The tops of the rails were cleaned off to insure electrical conductivity.

The Unitrack offerings by Kato look good, if you want to go that direction.

On my next N scale pike, I'll user the Atlas code 55 track for better realism.
