Hi, everyone. It is great to see all of the amazing projects everyone is doing. I've been out of commission for a bit but am now almost fully recovered. I fell off a roof and broke my left shoulder. I probably went back to work too soon and ended up needing surgery. Meanwhile I've been getting inspiration from all of you guys. I have picked up some projects I started earlier this year. This is the progress I am making on my 12x6" trailer park module. It is being built inch by inch. It started off as one 2"x2" square in the upper right corner. I have since added 2 Airstream trailers from Make My Model as well as a teardrop trailer and little farm. I bought the rooster, hens and chicks from Ebay. They may be from the same person Pawel got his birds from. The carport is a GCLaser open shed kit. The people and pets are from Outland-ish in China. So is the tent and campfire. I borrowed from Pawel the idea to have a stream. The stone bridge is from MBZ (Tom Oswald) I made most of the trees from plants from the garden. Most are astilbe flower heads covered with Scenic Express leaves. Robert provided the 12x6" bases. The blue teardrop trailer and the carport are lit with small LED's from Evans Design. I hope to be making more progress as the winter arrives.

Nice work Jim, sorry to hear about your shoulder, but I'm glad it is not stopping your modeling. It sounds like you have been collecting the stuff for this module for quite a while. I have a bunch of Make My Model trailers too. I think if we get Walt to make some for his Shapeways shop, they can be available in Z again. Anyways, your module is looking great!

Thanks, Robert. Airstream and other trailers with actual window openings would be great. I got the blue one from Shapeways. It has window openings. I put fancy tea bag mesh in the windows for screening. It looks pretty cool with the light on. I also added the window boxes. I would like to see some tiny PE crows to put in the trees. Here is a bird's eye view of the entire module.

Very nice! The trailers are fantastic! I like the way you captured that 60s type feel to it!

BTW I’m part of the bad shoulder club to. Got me a full thickness rotator cup tear. And boy you don’t realize what you can’t do til you can’t do!

Ain't that the truth. I was surprised at how much I could not do. Ruining my sleep pattern was probably the worst thing about it. Jim

You got that right Jim. Roll wrong way and you are instantly awake!

that said I’ve been doing a little modeling here and there. Showcase got a new truck and tow truck out. Do I’ll order that next pay day. The truck could pass for a Jeepers creepers truck. Might have to give that a try maybe park it by my country church with a corrugated metal tube. ;)

I just saw them. I will be getting a couple of each. One cannot have too many tow trucks. I really like their stuff. Jim

I just bought a BUNCH of Showcase Miniatures' stuff (to take advantage of their 15% off sale) and NOW they come out with new trucks.

Oh well, need some more side mirrors and mudflaps now, anyway!

    ;)

Their very generous free shipping (over $50.00) and no local sales taxes makes their products always worth the money. They are also two very nice folks. A pleasure doing business with. Jim

I noticed the trash truck as well. Is this what they mean by “trailer trash”? I’m confused, because that’s what everyone used to call my ex wife….(n)

Excellent work, with a lot of visual complexity. Not just one little lonesome trailer and vehicle sitting there, but all of the things that should be there that we don’t visually recognize when driving by or through such a scene.

I think you captured something Jim that we all need to be mindful of and that is the complete scene. Taking into consideration all four sides of a building for instance, and adding in the necessary weeds, debris, stacks of whatever, utility lines, power boxes, and anything else that one does not think about in the real world — but certainly becomes evident when it’s added -or- missing from a model railroad scene. When the details are added, those scenes really “pop”.

But finding and inserting those scenery elements is one of the biggest and maybe funnest challenges of Z-scale.

    Sorry if I’m getting deep……

Thank you, Lance. The trash truck is one of Walt's (I think.) I am a facilities manager by profession so I do look at things from all angles and all sides. Small details have always fascinated me. There are other details I will be adding, such as, utility poles with transformers, etc...ala RR's fine example of how cool they look. It is hardly seen in these photos but there is a kite stuck in the tree of the yellow trailer lot. It is made from cat whisker and cigarette paper. Currently I am working on making realistic puddles. I have not decided on what type of road surface I will lay down. I'm leaning on a rutted dirt road with a simple wooden bridge crossing the stream. This module has been morphing from one thing to another. When I saw the poultry on ebay I morphed the trailer park into 60's-style commune. The two Outland-ish people are erecting some fencing to keep them confined. Then I got the tents and campground stuff from Outland and it became a trailer/camp ground. I'm still looking for a couple of BBQ pits and some decking for the two Airstream trailers. I hope all is well with you and yours. Thanks for your comments. Jim

Thank you, Scott. I went with the older style paint job. I prefer this era and paint scheme. I wish they had provided decals for both versions. Decals for mailboxes would be sweet, too. Be well. Thanks for your comments. Jim

Those two came out great. I missed the three-axle boom truck. I must get one now. I will be placing an order with them soon for their new releases and will add one of them. Did you have any difficulty inserting the windows on the LLV? I couldn't get them to look right and have not used them. I have built a few of each of their z scale vehicles. You just can't have too many cars, trucks, vans, etc...I'm hoping they come out with a line of z automobiles in two-pieces like their small trucks and vans. They do have add-on features like mirrors and mudflaps for the trucks. They'd look great on that boom truck. Jim

I think Carlos Pinto did these. I recall have seen some R-series International Harvester trucks from him.

The R-190 garbage truck is by Stoney Smith. EA electronics has a kit for a 48-52 Ford with that style of bed.
