Might make your own, it's easy enough in 1:29
Have 3D printed parts. Just gotta get them installed. But, May of the
originals, were glued in, so I'm having difficulty getting the alignment pins out!
Thinking of just digging out what I can, to create a flat surface, then epoxy
the printed parts in place. A lot faster!
Also found out why the RS3 wouldn’t run! One, was rather dirty wheels!
The other, and I gotta figure this out, is the wheels are about 1/16 inch too narrow!
Figure if I can find some thin washers, I’ll place on on each wheel.
Easy to deal with, since wheels are screwed onto the axles, not press fit!
Maybe with clean wheels, and gauge fixed, it might run slightly better!
Do you have the NMRA standards gauge? I recommend checking the gauge on all of your equipment. You might be surprised how many are out of gauge from the manufacturer. I'd wager gauge is one of the leading causes of reliability problems in any scale.
Used the wheel gauge on the Kadee coupler height gauge.
All I have right now. Would have to see if I can find an NMRA
Got my latest purchase today.
A rather nifty rail broom. A counter rotating
nylon brush, mounted to the end of an Aristo
flat car! Just gotta get it powered now. Was hoping
for track power, but that could be a challenge. So, I sent
quick message to seller, asking if the same Traxxas LiPo batteries
I run in my UDR will work. if it will, then I gotta get proper
connectors, so I can Get things hooked up and running!
Couple of photos of mounted broom.
Extra load! Didn't know where else to set the N Scale P&H shovel!
Just need to see about getting another Traxxas battery, same as what my UDR uses, and connections, so I can power the unit soon!
Did a quick search. There is NO NMRA gauge for Large Scale.
And from the sounds of it, they don’t plan on making one!
Checked RS3, and the wheels are screwed onto the axles, but
I can NOT get the screws to come loose, without totally stripping
Ugh, you have to be kidding
Where did you get that P&H mining shovel? It's sweet!
If I recall, ordered direct from P&H.
Had limited numbers of both weathered
and non weather shovels. What you might
NOT like, is the $300 price tag at the time!
Was able to obtain a 6 Amp bridge rectifier from a friend yesterday.
Got it installed in the NW-2calf unit and was able to do some light
testing last night. Programmed for Rd #100 also. Since the cow/calf
set is Rd #100A/B. Only thing I ended up doing, was swap motor connections
so both units ran in the same direction! Spent about 2 hours today, with the set
teamed up, wired together and running. Have electrical connection between both
units, to help with electrical pick up. Ran quite nicely during that time.
Not much I can do, since the 10 Amp rectifiers I ordered are still stuck in China!!
Maybe, after minor surgical procedure on Tuesday, I can get out and do a bit of track
work in a few places! Maybe get the weeds/plants taking over part of the wye, removed
so I can clean the track and do some needed work and testing! To make sure I’m not gonna derail!
Look really, really nice. But ouch. $$$ for a static model.
Did they come from the factory wired as opposites?
No. made the change, because I wanted to run
both units under same road number. This way, I
can have the Gauges of the calf unit facing the cab
of the cow unit, where the crew can keep an eye on
the calf unit performance.
Comes with a key as well, so you can adjust the height of the boom
as well as the bucket arm position.
I'd be certain my tracks were level before running that load on a flatcar, to prevent a roadbed-related derailment from wrecking it!
Don’t plan on running it that way!
Just set it there, since I didn’t know
where else to set it! Would mind if G
Scale parts were available. Make a couple flatcar loads!
Whether tracks, or the bucket!
Just managed to add another RS-3 to the collection.
Lather number, to the one I have! Need to arrange a pick up time
since it was a local sale! Just have to swap the RC/Sound to new unit.
Hopefully, I can get current unit running.
Newest acquisition. Rio Grande RS-3 #5205.
Used, but virtually new! Unlike other unit!
Just need to get RC reciever/Sound moved into it.
And find speaker that will NOT interfere with reciever.
And swap to Kadee couplers.
I have always loved that paint scheme
