    Hi guys
I have an idea and I thought I would mention it. My idea is a moderated TrainBoard chat that can be on a certain night each week, say Monday, with a different topic every week. I don't know if you have chat capabilities on TrainBoard, but I thought I would throw the idea out there and see what you guys think.
    Thanks for the time.
    Thom

sounds like a plan. I am good for most nights except some Tuesday nites, most Wednesday nites and some Friday nites. Depending on the
time I can probably be on any nite.

    Shoutbox

    Hi all,

When I logged on this morning and clicked on 'Forum Index' I found something called 'Shoutbox' at the top of my screen. Shoutbox contains nothing I need or want from TB. Is there a way to remove it from my Forum Index? Should it be a separate choice on your main menu?

From what I've seen, it seems just like a text messaging rant. I don't mean to be harsh, but I don't need it.

    Happy holidays,

    Phil Omsted

    Charlie,
Thanks for the shoutbox. Should be a fun feature.

Phil: If you go back to that page, there is a small chevron in the orange bar that has "Shoutbox" written on it. If you click on the chevron, it will collapse the Shoutbox feature.

This is true of all the forums on TrainBoard.

Once it is collapsed, it will stay that way until you change it.

Well, here's proof of what I am always saying... no matter what you do someone will blister you.

Phil, there is a little gray arrow over to the far right of where it says "Shoutbox".

You just click on that little sucker there and it disappears.

    Charlie, Flash and Colonel,

Thanks for the info. No blistering intended. Just curious and (I guess) cranky when I wake up.

    Thanks again,

    Phil

    Charlie:
The chat room text view constantly jumps to the most recent message, even when I try holding the scroll button up higher in the messages so I can read earlier messages and try to follow the thread of a conversation. Is that the way it's supposed to work or am I not using the tools correctly? Are there some preferences I could adjust to address this?

Please keep it seperate......I'm wasting too much time minimizing the shoutbox in order to get to the REAL important modelling issues. It could also be preventing the posters from posting in the threads. I come to read about what they are doing.....not the ramblings.
It's 5 seconds each time I log in of my life I will never get back.

We are continuing to take comments on this and will make a decision soon.

Let me say this... people asking, "Can you...." - there are no such options for this in this form.

I have looked at other packages and they are very expensive.

We are working through this process as we do every other.

    Charlie,
I/we appreciate your continuing efforts to expand feature sets while seeking to always improve day to day quality.

From the look of it, there are some early adopters out there using the chat, so it is at least a short term success! Congratulations.

All things being equal, I'd rather have to 'go' to a separate place to use that chat function. Like we do for rail images and blogs. I do personally find it annoying to either use or to deal with the feature and minimization, especially since it is right there on top.

I agree with the note earlier by ppuinn; it is an annoyance, trying to figure out the context of a current conversation as it continually jumps to current statements.

The 'goodest' part of this new feature is that I have learned that many things can be 'minimized' with that little arrow and that is a good thing. :)

    Have a great Christmas,

    Joe

There are no placement options for this software. It is something that will likely disappear in the short term and may be replaced by another system in the future.
