Don't put that camera away just because it is raining. The Catskill Mountain Railroad tourist train waits for its passengers at the Phoenica, NY, station. The station is also a museum with its heritage from the Ulster and Delaware Railroad.
Was a rainy day in Rosenberg, Texas. The BNSF local waited until Amtrak passed before approaching the diamond.
I've many great memories of trains in rain. And snow..... The sun doesn't always shine, as railroads go about their daily work. Boxcab E50
That's the truth, Ken! Rain and snow makes great shots with trains, if composed correctly, but clouds suck. Fog, on the other hand can be as interesting as snow... Just following a heavy torrential downpour, the rain is mothing more than a trickle. We were hoping the rains would be heavy, but this shot is interesting in its own right. Tunnel 29, and coal loads head east:
Snow, as well as fog, can make a very interesting opportunity. There's something about the way a train can be captured, as it approaches, then seems to suddenly emerge from the weather. Boxcab E50
Out here in Western Washington, if you wait till the sun comes out, it could be quite a long time before you can go railfanning! After awhile you get used to it and make the best of your funtime! That first picture by the way, that's not rain, that's a monsoon!!!
As you all know, it NEVER rains in Oregon, right? This shot of the two steam stars at the Brooklyn roundhouse last Friday during the NRHS convention tours. Sure glad I remembered to bring my umbrella. We only use them to protect our cameras, right?
It was a dark and stormy night: Tanken in the Late 70 / Early 80. Where Cambridge Street crosses the Mass Pike and TOFC, (I think) yards. Boston, MA.
I know folk out there in Trainboard - land will find it hard to believe, but it does occasionally rain in the UK as well... Here's a First Great Western class 180 'Adelante' unit, shot during a downpoar at Exeter St Davids... Here 57601, now operated by West Coast Railway Co. leaves the loop at Dawlish Warren after getting run round by a FGW HST set. Typically it was in sunshine when the train arived there!
Ta Pierce, I kinda liked it too, one of those 'accidentally' nice images, the reflections on the platform didn't stand out till I uploaded the shots at home! I must give it another go, as usually my first instinct is to go home when it rains, but that shot suggests I could get some interesting results...
Southbound Cascades entering the Vancouver Wa Yard. I think that's an empty wellcar train in the background.
Great pics Just shows that trains make good pictures in any weather! I am guilty of being a fine weather photographer
