I am planning on making 6000 series flatcars (the kind used on D&RGW) and I couldn't think of anything more badass to use as cargo for them than guns! I was thinking of using some German 88mm guns like this:

The thing is I want to be fairly prototypical about it and I don't want to exceed the 40,000 lbs. weight limit so I am open to suggestions of what other armament may be good for 6000 series flatcars to transport.

Are you planning on German armaments or US as they would most likely the type hauled by the D&RGW? I recall you are modeling HOn3 so the ROCO MiniTank line would be the best supplier of these things.

For any country just about any canon could be carried.

For US equipment, the WW2 M3 halftracks weighed in at just under 10 tons. The heaviest tank that a 6000 series car could handle would be a M3 Stuart at 15 Tons. The M3 Grant and M4 Shermans all weighed over 25 tons. I plan on using the steel 6500 series flats to carry Shermans on my On3 layout.

For German equipment the heaviest tank would be the Mk II at 7 tons. The Mk III was 25 tons. They also had 8 ton halftracks used for tank recovery as well as other purposes, like pulling canon etc.

    Keep us posted!

I should have emphasized on my first post that I do work with HOn3, no biggie I suppose.

And no, the equipment I make are real, but the road names I put on them are fictitious, so I can transport German made armament or anything I want really! :tb-biggrin:
