I tacked this question on the end of my comment on the "freightcar project" but thought I'd make a separate topic and get more answers. Anyone know of a good rescource that describes the various truck types and especially what they were used on? Between the Andrews, Barber, Vulcan, Bettendorf, Fox, Archbar, Flexicoil, Hyatts, Timkens (whew!!!!) and I know I missed a bunch more especially on the diesels locos; it gets a bit confusing. Again, thanks for all the help everyone!
The origianl diesel spotters guide had a pretty good photo section on locomotive trucks. May be a challenge to find a copy though.
Check out Easter Car Works web page: http://www.easterncarworks.com/page7.html These are of course model trucks - so it's not prototype information. I don't know of a good source for prototype information and have seen some lively internet discussion about truck names used by model manufactures...
Let me see if I can start something here that others will pick up on. Let's see if we can put together a set of prototype pictures of trucks that may help to answer this question. Here is a Bettandorf truck. (I know that only because the name is molded into the frame.) I know there may be a lot of variations on the Bettandorf design, but this is good for starters.
Also, take a look at the "Trucks" thread in More Than Trains. There is a lot of good info there. I have brought it to the top of the forum so you would have an easier time finding it.
