Does anybody know if there are books or web pages out there which show the various TTX cars and when they were built? I'm looking for any prototype TTX cars that were in use in the early 1970's. Thanks.

When TTX was formed in 1956 they took ownership of 86 class F30d flats from the PRR. These were the Pennsy's original TOFC flats and each could hold one trailer.

They also took ownership of the newly built PRR class F39 flats that each held two trailers. Off the top of my head, I think there were 250 of these. They were new in December 1954.

There's an awesome book, Piggyback and Containers, by David deBoer, which chronicles the entire history of rail intermodal (at least up to the point the book was published). He does a fairly good job of chronicling the advent of Trailer Train and the development and introduction of all types of intermodal equipment.
