Well the workbench is clear again for awhile. The last ferry was completed this morning. Had a problem with the ferry lifeboat davits and the flying bridges sticking out to far and in a simple operation trimmed them down this morning. Both ferries can be moved on or off the layout. The only thing they need now is life rings on the rails and flags. The big ferry is the mainland connection with the Island that is the location of Friday Harbor. The smaller ferry is an inter-island connection to the San Juan Islands.

I took advantage of a https://www.trainworld.com/ sale on Classic Metal Works vehicles to round out my delivery trucks which are due to arrive today and the lowboy trailers will have my construction equipment loaded on them and the garbage trucks will get put to work. So the next thing for the layout will be garbage cans and dumpsters.

John, they are lovely, obviously sea worthy. I don't see any state or federal numbers on their bows, assuming they're homeported in the US of A, that is.

BTW, I've given you another "opportunity", should you choose to accept (Mr. Phelps). With apologies to Rod Serling.

Consider seven foot beam RV canal boats for your water borne recreational vacation economy. See my final post to Kev's informative thread.

I am considering flagging them as Canadian.

Got my vehicles tonight and tried to fit the earth mover on one and found it would not fit. Good thing I ordered a set of tractors too. So I set down after supper and in about 3 hours had built my own trailer using styrene and some parts from the parts box including strip wood for the trailer deck. I now have a new equipment trailer. seen here sandwiched between the low boys.

And the three trailers with their loads.
The new trailer is a 3 axle twelve wheel and has real wood for the deck. Tomorrow some weathering.

Finished weathering slightly the new trailer and then loaded my construction equipment on board the lowboys and the new trailer. These will get displayed on the highway below the cliffs on the layout.

The light blue 1954 pickup will get a trailer and a dump truck I have will get a new trailer with a front end loader load and I will have a construction convoy. Figuring out now how to make a wide load sign for the lead vehicle.

Well a fun two evenings of creating my construction road convoy. In addition to creating two additional trailers to go with the two lowboys I took two small resin cast trailers and repainted them to go behind my pickup trucks. Nearly every trailer got a small load of barrels and boxes. The pickups were fitted with wide load signs printed in number 5 font size. So the construction convoy is ready for the highway.
The blue barrels are fitted with manual fuel pumps which are the grey things on top of the barrels.

Next up on the workbench is creating some trash cans and dumpsters now that I have trash trucks. Along with those I will also create some life rings for the ferry railings.

Well in what will be the last post in part five, spring here things to do, a small update. Finished the construction convoy and in another mini scene they are lined up on the highway shoulder waiting to go through the tunnel with a police escort. Because of the wide loads the tunnel needs to be closed to traffic while they pass through. At the far end barely visible are three police cars ready to head through the tunnel to shut down traffic at the other end and two will bring up the rear.

Meanwhile the new garbage trucks have been weathered and crewed. To go with them I made about 2 dozen trash cans and 16 dumpsters. In addition to what I have made I have four sets of dumpsters, trashcans, and trashbags on order that are a Shapeways product. Besides the conventional garbage trucks I have a truck on order for the dumpsters. Creating the dumpsters reminded me that restaurants have used cooking oil containers outside in back that resemble small dumpsters. A specialized tank truck picks up that cooking oil which led me to create a Valley Proteins Truck. The truck and the cooking oil dumpsters are in the middle while my trash truck now weathered and outfitted with a crew are on the right. To the left are my trash dumpsters created out of styrene.

A quarter acre garden is waiting to be tilled and a greenhouse waits for plants to be started. I have already fired the tractor up today and made the first cut of a ragged lawn of 2 and 1/2 acres. Salt and fresh water fishing awaits me and the Blue Crab season will start soon with soft shelled crabs on the menu so the modeling season is just about done.

Thank you. I am from the early era of N scale where if you wanted something a lot of times you had to build it. And I am from the school of thought that if you can see the back of something then it needs details. Because of the design of my layout, streets are angled, backs are visible or semi visible. Thus the dumpsters. Any restaurant that does any frying produces waste cooking oil. And the small dumpsters for waste oil are a fixture behind them.
