    IIRC, the DDA40Xs were powerered with two 16-645E3 type prime movers, tweaked to put out 3300 HP apiece.

    I have a copy of UP's 1992 motive power directory put out by Hyrail Publishing, but I can't remember if I have it here or back in that Augean stable I call a garage at home. It has the skinny on the prime movers used in UP's "Big Jacks".

    Ex-NYSW SD45 (now Montana Rail Link) 359, part of 5-unit power consist of EB junk freight at Gallup, May 2006. Yeah, I noticed the ex-BN and ATSF SD40-2s on either side, but this is the star of the pic. One old flare displaced from the Big Sky Country by new flares...........:teeth:
