Had to repair a solder connection on this 0-4-0 and tried to make a switching video when I was testing it out.
Switching videos are a lot harder than just running. Forgetting to throw switches is one problem.
Good running Rivarossi 0-4-0 has stock motor/ drive train. Got it use some years ago at the Minnesota state fair grounds train show.

    Great video!

I got my Rivarossi 0-4-0 at Scale Model Supplies back in the nineties when it was still up near Crystal. It runs very nicely, too.

By the time of the 0-4-0, Rivarossi had solved the problem of the commutator form melting down.

Oops,. you're talking HO scale and I, N scale. However, I also have an HO one and it runs very nicely, too.

Adding tender trucks with wiper really helped. My son wanted this engine and I figured it would need remotoring, but when we tested it out at the swap meet test track it ran surprisingly good. It is nosey with the brass gears ,but not too bad.
