Check out the link with pics of 2 Maine Eastern F40PHs on Guilford train MOPO on Jul 22nd.
Does anybody know the story of this movement?
    Thanks,
    Bill

yes, headed on MOPO to Rigby, then on the brunswick turn to Maine Eastern. Scan NERAIL under ME and you will see all kinds of stuff happening in brunswick. MDOT cleared a parking lot and is building platforms, and ME extended and reopened the passing track.

F40s and coaches and even private varnish have shown up. Today is the inaugural run of service. Aug. 5-8 is Rockland lobster festival, $40 a ticket includes train and festival, stops in portland brunswick and rockland (might be others). See Northern New England Rails yahoo list for BEST coverage of this.

    Other runs planned into fall.

Thanks for that info. Very interesting!
Sounds like Brunswick will become more than just the hub of the two routes.

Gee, that's a pretty nice paint design and colors. Would be interesting to model a couple of those. Only problem might be decals, none listed at Microscale. Now I wish I had an Alps printer.

I would bet money Jim Abbott has them out within a month or two. (highball graphics). He is really good about getting fresh schemes out in his decal sets.

Is this a commuter or senic road?

According to their website, they are a Class III shortline freight railroad owned by the M&E (Morristown & Erie RR). But based on what txcavgr mentioned with the building of platforms, passenger coaches, "other runs this fall" etc, sounds like they are going all-out to run excursions too. Sounds like it might just be an operation to put on our "must visit" list.

MDOT has a master plan for rail, the next piece past the Downeaster is service into Bayside in Portland, to the proposed Amtrak station along the 295 corridor, then across by Tukey's Bridge, and up to Yarmouth over the SLR and then to Brunswick and Rockland on the former MEC Low Road. Did a Chamber breakfast a year and a half ago (give or take!) where DOT gave a big show about the next 20 years.

That is why they spent 30 million to rehab the rockland line. So the ME has a lot of support for this, including things like MDOT staff building the platforms in Brunswick.

the state dream is to have combo tourist and commuter service, with budd car like service in yarmouth, freeport and brunswick, then tourist service past there. To be a commuter stop you have to have a "walkable" downtown area and a station with parking - Yarmouth, Freeport and Brunswick would all have both.

OK, thanks to all for the info. Sounds like that operation would make a nice layout theme.
