Was out running errands earlier when I caught northbound NS train 360 at Dallas, GA. Not so odd but it had unit NS 3512, a high hood GE B30-7A in the lead. Have not seen one of those units leading a train down this way in years. The second odd sight was today's Braswell Mtn pusher unit. It is NS 9661 in primer. A couple of good but odd finds.
Richard, Sounds like a couple of odd sights I checked out the NS yard in town yesterday and caught a train leaving with a D940CW on the point, followed by a D9-40C, a GP50, and a couple of GP38-2's (all in NS paint). I could see that there was at least one "primer" Dash 9's in the yard, but no way to safely photograph it. I went back this morning, hoping to catch it, but there was instead saw a pair of GP38-2's switching the yard (one NS, one in CR paint) as well as a C39-8(NS)/C40-8W(CR). Oh well! Harold
Try this one out for odd NS sights, in St.Thomas Ontario on the evening of April 5/2001. Coupled and mu'd were 5330 GP35-2 repaint, 3296 SD40-2 high hood, SD40-2 chop hood, and of course just like every other day in the St.Thomas yard was 9404 Dash9 40CW ( these Dash 9's are very common units up here and probably everywhere else too). And this is all for train 344. All of the units in NS paint. [ 06 April 2001: Message edited by: Big John ]
UP is also retiring its older SD40-2s and SD50s, However the ex DRGW SD50s will remain a bit longer due to the original lease deal. At one time most people passed up taking pictures of the 40-2s because the were always around. Wouldn't hurt anyhow to get any SD40-2 picture that you can of any road, remember F units were at one point the "daily power". Duane
