For my next website update, I thought I would dig around in the "archives" and pick out something unique. The U18B definately fits that designation: Harold [ 13 November 2001: Message edited by: chessie ]</p>
Though not a big hit, the Seaboard Coast Line had a few: Note the extremely small fuel tank to keep down the weight! Harold
Though originally numbered in the 2xx series for SCL, they were renumbered into the 18xx-19xx series for Seaboard System, which stuck until CSX: Harold
Harold, Great pictures! It must have been awhile ago those were taken I believe. Isn't the U18b's retired? I'm almost sure of it but I could be mistaken tho. Anyway.... Nice work... Keep 'em comming!
Great shots Harold .... didn't CSX repaint a bunch of them bright orange for MOW service? I think I saw one come through here a few months ago.

I am glad I found something folks can respond to In response to your questions: 1) Yes, the pictures are 10+ years old 2) I am almost certain they have been retired for quite some time (unless MOW units survived.. see other question). With their 1800 H.P., small fuel tanks, and relative light weight, they were intended for the lighter rail on the branchlines that SCL operated on. I'll have to check reference sources, but I think SCL bought almost 100 of them. Harold
If you like noses...., this is for you... actually, it is a very intersting shot (overall) as the turntable to the left of the loco went to a roundhouse (long since demolished) and the small building to the right of the loco was a sand house. There was a really good article about kitbashing one of these by Jim Six in the September, 1996, Model Railroading. HO scale.
Hey Harold, Would you by any chance have a picture or 2 of the CSX "Big Blue" box cars? I see them every freakin day and my digital camera is slow what I snap a picture of has to be standing still or its all blurred. I got a few Athearn cars I plan on making CSX "Big Blue" cars and all but can't get a picture good enough to model from. Anyone for that matter with those box cars... post 'em please! I sure would appreciate it! I've looked on every site possible and haven't found any of the "Big Blue" cars.. Every other CSX box car is on the sites but the one i'm looking for! HA! Just my luck!
