What about that little "shunting locomotive"? https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1/1625763_775209745840317_1840770055_n.jpg
The nice looking little Shunting locos are based on East German prototypes used in Leipzig before 1989. Reagards Frank
I could see the Shunting loco making a good industrial critter. Maybe for that mini-mill I've been thinking about.
I guess nobody recognizes that it's not the engine this thread is about. Who cares???? It's about the couplers, which are Charlie Vlk's new, more prototypical sized, better functioning, MT compatible couplers that many N-scalers have been waiting to see. Pretty exciting, and I'll be looking forward to a better view of them in the near future. However, it's extremely encouraging to see they're not just a rumor, but are actually making it into production!! However, I'm perturbed that the poster is using the name "Protomate" which is David K. Smith's name for his in-development NZT coupler. What's with that??? Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
I spoke with the Hornby reps at Springfield. They have a LOT of north American models planned and ready to tool if the U25C does well, so order early and often! They indicated they have both engines and freight cars designed, but are reluctant to cut the dies until the U25 us out.
They can put me down for at least two U25C locos, now if someone would just take on the U33/U36C, I would purchase a fleet of them.
I see pictures of the DL500 in multiple RENFE schemes. Was there any indication of others - such as OSE (Greece)?
Why are you perturbed with the original poster? He's only referring to what they [Hornby] are calling it on their site. Or are you referring Hornby as "the poster"?
I hope they have realistic expectations about how well a U25C should sell. After all, only about 100 of the prototypes were produced and for just a handful of railroads.
I saw a few of these on a railfan tour around the former East Germany in 2008, they are battery locomotives used to move engines around engine terminals, they will fit on a turntable with the loco they are towing. Back to the main topic of the thread, I'd like to know more about the couplers. Will they be available separately in a variety of draft gear styles or will Arnold develop and market them like Athearn has done with the McHenrys, ie; make one style and that's it, if at all.
I would also like to know the answers to these questions. I believe we'll have to wait to find out the answers however. Lots more options will be available if their introductory U25C engine is deemed a success...along with its Charlie Vlk coupler which won't be named "Protomate" very long, since it's obviously in Trademark violation with David K. Smith's in-development coupler. Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
Yup. DKS published his TM paperwork on TRW, and it's an international trademark. Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
