Rory, Spoke with my dad the other day and he mostly agrees with what I said in post #19. As soon as I figure out how I want to handle the money transaction part, I will start selling some items on the swap meet. I will also talk with Rob about setting aside some pieces for prosperity. Scott
Thank you Scott I've got a Nelson Gray F7a and gondola. Can't find it. Same with an SP Rogue GP38. Maybe I'm not the right guy for preserving this. But, I do love the early stuff. Brings back memories.
Okay, I'm back from a visit with my dad. I showed him this thread, and he agrees with everything I have written so far. Just a little more information regarding the cast steam locomotive details, they were cast by the gentleman from London Bridge. Regarding the GP-5s, there are five castings. If anyone is interested I will be selling them. Last, we went through his diesel stock. All these diesels are Rogue Works GP-38-2s. He has two-three complete units (shell with railings and motor). He has twenty plus shells (most are marked Southern) He has railing kits in etched brass and plastic. The shells are in various stages from unpainted to drilled for railings to complete. Anyone interested?
Any update on these? I still have the G-5s steam shell, just been looking for a good Marklin chassis but they keep going up in price! Those old Rogue GP38-2 shells are what got me into Z-scale so many years ago, when I first saw them!
Kurt, I recently went thru a bunch of Z scale stuff with my dad. I am going to post for sale all the GP-38 shells he has (dozens), motors in various states of completion, and others bits and pieces. I sold two complete GP-38s to someone on this site this summer. As soon as I get my act together, there will be more. There are still four more G-5 shells as well.
It is interesting to see a high quality motor in these locos yet whatever transitioned into the MTL F7 wasn't.
Just an FYI, I'm selling shells,from my dad's collection, that are early test runs from the molds to check for coupler clearance, and paint adherence. Scott Scott
You guys know that these are what started my craving for modern "Z"!!!!! Whilst at a Houston Train Show in the early 2000's I ran across a guy who I asked a question about "Z" scale. That guy told me about a company who started making a modern GEEP unit in Z scale and that was it!!! He didn't have a name for me, just that he knew it was being made! Because of RLW I am where I am today in the scale of Z!
My dad was in involved with Rogue Locomotive Works. He still has a lot of parts and pieces for the initial GP38. Scott
For those of you that have AZL's GP38s... remove the shell and look inside for an Easter Egg. The shells are still stamped Rogue.

Rob you forgot to mention, from the original release, that a limited number of GP38s (I believe all SP) had a stamp placed under the fuel tank that read "RLW USA ZTRACK 01-..."
HA! So true!!! Those are the rarest of them all. All SP. We offered the first release to Ztrack subscribers. Each was stamped with Ztrack and the number on bottom. I think around 25 where sold.
