It is that time of year once again for one of the biggest model railroad/swap meets in the NW. The event this year will be held on February 6th and 7th at the Evergreen state fairgrounds in Monroe. There will be over 20 operating layouts of all scales and almost 250 swap tables and manufacter booths as well. This is a charity event supporting Snohomish Co. 4H. There will be clinics and presentors in a seperate room from the arena.
Does this event have a website? My clubmates and I keep talking about coming to that show (for us, it's a bit of a drive). Maybe this year we'll actually do it.
Adam- It's not a bad drive. Long, but all on major roadways. A couple of different ways to get there, which take you almost right to the main entrance. I'm daydreaming, but right now my rehab isn't far enough along... Maybe... Boxcab E50
Yeah and most of the way up from St Johns you can do alot of train watching along I-5 between Portland and Castle Rock. If you come make sure and take a camera too as the Stevens Pass mainline always has some good action on it over the weekend.
We are 1 week away form our annual show. Next weekend we will be hosting the biggest model train show/swap meet in the greater Seattle area. We have completely stuffed our new venue. We will have clinics varying from tree making, to making rock molds and casting rocks, a track ballasting clinics, and clinic on weathering with chalks. We will also have some presenters on topics of the NP and local railroading in the PNW from 1950-1970. This will include shortlines, class 1 RR ,and even some logging railroads too. If anyone wants more information drop me a PM or see the above link I posted a couple weeks ago.
Oh how I want to be there. Have been working hard on building up my health. But it's starting to look like I won't be able to come. Sure would like to chat face to face with you, Ryan. Also want to catch up with Peter, Keith, and many others who should be there! Boxcab E50
Yes all the cronies will be there Ken, as well as many others. Doug Nighswonger is one of the presentors this year. I will tell him hi if you want me to. I will see about getting one of our club foamers to gets some good trackside pictures for ya.
Ryan- I have not completely abandoned all hope. This would be a long and very painful journey for me right now. If I could attend, it would be Saturday. The list of presenters, displayers and layouts is outstanding! The UNW really knows how to do it! I'm sure gonna cry if not able to be there! Boxcab E50
Ken- We would LOVE to have you attend. But if you cant I completely understand. I will be there all weekend. More than likely running trains on the UNW legacy, and showing off my Chehalis Western GP 38-2's that are right out of the Vail paint shops. If you do happen to come, make sure and look me up. I would LOVE to get a chance to sit and chit chat with you!
Ryan- How was the meet? Did anyone grab a few photos? Any that Peter might be able to put up on the web site? Boxcab E50
Ken- I did not get a chance to get away from the layout too much during the weekend and take photos. However, one of our fellow members Tim Finley always has a camera at hand, hopefully he took some that we can post. I know there was also a member of the Mt Rainier, Scott Gibson that took some photos of the UNW on Sunday morning. I know this because he wanted me to stage my CW log train by the sawmill I have been working on. I got the enitre CW roster -1 (the C-415 #684) in one photo.
Ryan- I've not heard from Scott in ages. Hope he'll share his photos. Maybe we will see them on the MRNS web site? Boxcab E50
Who knows where they will be posted, but when I get some sent ym way I will be sure to post them on here. We had a record turn out this year. We increased attendance by almost 60% from last year.
Ryan- That's great news! Congratulations to the UNW crew! Somehow, I will be there next year. I'm tired of my health holding me back. :tb-mad: You may carry me out on a stretcher, but I'll be there! Boxcab E50
