I've had my N Scale train set for quite some time ago (20 years) really never had it out until recently. My Grandsons have a love for trains & I'll be a little more active. Seeing those smiles is certainly worth it! I got my first train set when I was about 10 years old, it was an HO scale I'd watch that thing go around in circles by the hour! Anyway some 50 + years later getting the bug again. I'm near the short line Mineral Range RR that transports Nickle and the Lake Superior & Ishpeming RR.
@Chiefifd Moose bids you a hearty welcome! What scale, era, theme and size layout are you considering?
Welcome to TrainBoard! I had no idea the Mineral Range RR was still alive and kicking. It would fun to see a few photos of them in action!
Thanks for the welcome Moose! I have an Atlas GP-7 N Scale with just a few cars with Rapido couplers. The Atlas has the Accumate couplers, (problem.. LOL) one of the reasons I came aboard here. I bought the Kato track for ease/reliability of use, not so concerned about the realism of the look. I want to convert my limited rolling stock so all will couple, something I just realized when I put the track up for the Grandkids! I'm looking for cars & locomotives from the early 60's to early 70's, I loved the trains of my childhood. The Alco's RS-3 and like, I remember the LS&I pulling long loads of iron ore past our neighborhood. Chicago & Northwestrn and the SOO Line ran through our little town as well when I was young. I know I'll learn a-lot here. Thanks again for the welcome.....
Yes, the Mineral Range has EMD GP 9 & GP10 I believe. I added a YouTube video of the Mineral Range. I think it was very well done! Thank you all.....
Welcome aboard, Chiefifd. By any chance does the ifd stand for a fire department, and if so are or were you the chief?
Yes, it does. I was Fire Chief for the City of Ishpeming 1995-2000 & 2008-2020 and retired to step aside and let a younger generation step in. I'm still serving in the department as a Firefighter/Operator (driver) for hopefully a few more years if health allows....
