A few years ago, I briefly corresponded with a fellow. He had a nice web site, with military RR history. Believe his name was Tim? Wish I could find that book mark. Boxcab E50
Interesting... I don't think I've ever seen a conductor wear a headset before. Pretty smart actually. I think there's a lot of interesting military RR history out there. There's old tracks that go to the China Lake Naval Weapons Station, which I'm sure have some good history. There also use to be a line that went right through the middle of the dry lake at Edwards AFB. In fact... I forget which plane it was, but one of the early jet planes were secretly delivered to the base by rail for testing, and they left the engine running the entire time in transit. Dave, I believe that would have been the Bell XP-59A which first flew on 1 October, 1942 at the Muroc Dry Lake, the forerunner of Edwards AFB. More info can be found at... http://www.nasm.si.edu/exhibitions/gal100/XP59A.html
