Will there be much train movement for the upcoming holiday in the USA? Do most train workers have the holiday off?

Out here in western Washington, it gets a little slower, except for the contract trains like double stacks and the garbage trains that run here. [IMG]

When I was with the BNSF, they tried to cut down the number of train movements on and
around the real major holidays. Some of the
yard jobs were annulled and you should hear
some of those greedy old heads weep and wail
if their job was blanked out on the holiday!
Yard jobs get holiday pay,so its big $$$. Road jobs and commuter service dont get holiday pay. Also on the BNSF the crews that have jobs that work on Sundays will be the ones who will work on holiday trains, since the holiday schedule is the same as the Sunday Schedule. Several years ago I was working a job that worked every other Saturday. That year our crew had a 3day weekend for Memorial Day,Independence Day and Labor Day, with no loss in pay. How sweet it was!

I don't really know... I did check NS and CSX websites and there was no information about special holiday schedules...

I would guess that the hot intermodal trains would run, but local freights and yard moves could be reduced.
