One of the few pieces of USA Trains exceptions I'm making is the Intermodals. Don't get me wrong, USA Trains equipment is nice, but since I do BN's predecessor roadnames, I've found being limited by Aristocraft to be easier on my wallet and budget. The BN Boxcar that was found for me is one exception and the Extended Vision Caboose will be another. My deal is all Motive Power and Rear End Cabooses are in BN Green.

What I want to know and I'm hoping EMD Trainman can find this out since it's not listed on USA Trains website, is the 5-car set, do they have the same 5 road numbers as the 5 single cars aswell? I need to know for the BN Road name because I'm comprising a roster list of equipment with multiple road numbers so when I get a new piece of listed equipment I can cross it off the list. (Good luck finding the SP&S Club car from last year :3).

So far I've managed to find 3 single road numbers on my own via Ebay:
    BN Intermodal (Single Unit) 62032
    BN Intermodal (Single Unit) 62031
    BN Intermodal (Single Unit) 62028

I need to know the road numbers of the 5-car set. From what I understand the Single units are 3 individual ones only. I have a BNSF One, I bought it over BN when I was in HS Thinking I'd do a BNSF Layout and move on like BN did with the merger not realizing I wanted to model Burlington Northern and Preserve her heritage for the ages. The BNSF car I have got damaged and wrecked during the refinishing of the lower level. Sad but when I get the BN Car's I'll have staging tracks to display them on.

I can try to help you out on this one.

There is a USA Intermodal Container car which is indiviual cars and then there is a Intermodal 5 unit Articulated set which comes with 5 articulated cars and not regular intermodal cars.

Unfortunately USA Trains for some reason has not been keeping up on listing all the different road numbers available for each line of train they make, The only road numbers I saw available were for box cars.

I did find out this much info for you, there are actually 4 road numbers available for the Intermodal container car in Burlington Northern. Part #17105 with no container, part number #17106 with 2 containers #1, part #17107 with 2 containers #2, and part #17108 with 2 containers #3 You can actually change out the containers on these cars, real neat.

Now for the Intermodal 5 unit Articulated sets. Although these are a 5 car set they really count as only 1 car since all 5 are permantly attached, so they just feature a road number on the front car and the same road number on the rear car of the 5 car set since in reality it's just one long articulated car that has 5 pivot points. USA just advertises these both in the book and the intense catalog price list I have as being available in multiple road numbers. Me knowing my USA products I would dare gather to say as many as 4 different road numbers would be available for each 5 car articulated set since how when USA makes multiple road numbers it's usually always in quantities of 4 different road numbers for some reason.

Als knowing my USA products, I would have to say that USA would not put the same road numbers on the 5 car articulated set and re-use them over on the single intermodal cars, thats not USA, they are pretty good at making sure not to use the same road numbers over and over again although I can't 100% confirm that since I can't anything in writting anywhere to verify that, I'm just going from past experience.

Right now at this point that is the best I can do, USA has slipped on keeping good records of what they produce.

so each 5-car set can have around up to 4 diffrent set-road numbers. That's 20 cars right there on a technical scale. Interesting, I think I'll search around some international ebay sites and see what I can turn up.

DragonfyreGT, yeah that would be about right, 4 different road numbered 5 car sets. This has always been USA Trains past practice when making multiple road numbers, it is usaully in 4 different numbers. Back in the day near when Charles Ro went to the name USA trains they did 6 differtent road numbers, but have since cut it back to four about 6 years ago. I got lucky and have all six road numbered Rio Grande 70 ton hopper cars, now you can only buy in 4 road numbers. So if I'm right, that would be my educated guess, but who would have that kinda of room to run such a consist, the 5 car set is loooooonnnnggggg. By the way you know you need 10ft minimum radius curves to run the 5 car articulated cars right? I think the articulated cars are neat also, but now room inside for 10ft curves.

What I always wanted to do is have a long display track in my living room/dining room (their open rooms) on a shelf with a custom painted E8 in BN Green leading them. Outdoors I'm prepping for a 10 foot radius, indoors I can handle about 6 foot.

I noticed from your past post you have some tight spaces in your basement which I can understand why you can handle only 6ft inside. Thank Aristocraft for making such a huge variety of track now, back in the day there were hardly any choices of curves, it was 4ft, 5ft, 8ft, 10ft and 20ft, that was it. Today they have just about every curve diameter you can think of.

I know there are those who are LGB track lovers also and that is fine, it works just as well. I myself like to use Aristocraft because I can understand the dimensions better. LGB uses terms such as R1, R2 and R3 curves and have no idea what that means. When you say 5ft, 8ft, 10ft, etc curves like Aristocraft does I know exactly what you mean. Plus I never like how LGB measured out their straights, what does a 320mm straight mean???? You come to America to sell, so lets put things in American measurements now. When you say 1ft, 2ft, 3ft, etc long straights like Aristocraft does, I know what it means.

I guess you could say I'm more confortable with American measurements. I'm such a stickler about American measurements that I refuse to buy 2 liter bottles of soda, I'll buy a 12 pack of 12 ounce cans. I studied the metric system back in 3rd grade and America really never implemented it, I'm too old to remember it and I'm not gonna re-learn it.

To each their own I say even as strange it may seem to another

Oh Not to derail (haha I made a funny..... I'll go stand in the corner now.) this thread, but do you happen to know the order form number for the SD70-2 MAC Strobe light? I'm going to use that strobe light on my BN Locomotives as their already G-Scale sized and my sierra sound system (when I get it) will have an auxillary output for ditch lights, strobe light, mars light, etc.

You also made a boo-boo, USA does not have a SD70-2 MAC, they have a SD70-MAC which does not use a strobe light. You are refering to the USA SD40-2 which does use a strobe light. Alright, I know I'm being technical now, but I know what you are talking about. Here is the part number of the USA strobe light you requested > R22-403Strobe LED

Haha thanks SD70 not SD70-2. I keep confusing the GP38-2 with the SD70. Thanks, I've got my strobe on order for my lead unit.
