I will post a series of photos in here giving samples of my photos at Webshots. Royal Gorge: Royal Gorge train viewed from bridge Royal Gorge Locomotive Royal Gorge train dome car Royal Gorge train viewed from bridge There really isn't much else in this group with trains in it.
Misc. Railroad Stuff is just a collection of things I've found along the way that don't justify their own album. Flanger at Monte Vista, CO Old locomotive at Monte Vista, CO Passenger car at Monte Vista, CO Caboose in Crookston, Minnesota. There's only a few photos in this group.
Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is where the action starts. #480 getting ready to head out of Durango Out on the road Looking down the track Old beat up cars This is more scenery than train, but there's some good train shots in this set.
Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is my largest group of photos yet with 217. #484 coming out of the engine house in Antonito, CO #484 Ready to pull in Antonito, CO Rotary snowplow in Chama, NM #487 backing to pick up train in Chama, NM Again, there's a lot of scenery shots, but there should be enough train and equipment shots in this group to make folks happy.
BNSF & UP in Rochelle, IL was basically a snap decision. I got a few decent shots. UP Going East UP going West BNSF Headed East Another UP headed West Nothing fancy in this set.
I hope you enjoy these photos, I had a blast taking them. Thanks to everyone who provided info before I left! Oh, BTW, the Cumbres & Toltec did not double head out of Chama, but the poor engine sure was working hard on the way up.
You get around more than a dollar bill!!:teeth: I like the way you put your pic's as thumbnails too. It does'nt take as long to download!
Kurt Moose: Wasn't my choice, that's how Webshots does it. I'll be trying to get around more in the coming years. Tim: Thank you. The suspension bridge was swinging slightly and it was really windy. But I wasn't going to miss this golden opportunity.
The only close up shot is a near duplicate of that one. I usually hit the trigger 2 or 3 times on each shot lineup. I have another one that is pretty far away. I can add it to the gorge set if you want me to.
Sounds like your trip was similar to mine. I hit three excursion railroads (Nevada Northern, Durango & Silverton, Cumbres & Toltec), three class 1s (CSX, UP, BNSF), and six class 3s (R.J. Corman, Santa Fe Southern, West Texas & Lubbock, Texas Pacifico, Gulf Colorado & San Saba, and Austin Area Terminal).
FYI: I think these Dome cars came from Alaska but I'm not 100% sure. EDIT: See http://www.royalgorgeroute.com/rates_dome.aspx Royal gorge route dome cars: Ex Tour Alaska/Princess
Same markings. Looks right to me. Pretty convenient to get your hands with paint appropriate to your environment.
Technically, these are Holland America Cruise Line dome cars. The Princess Cruise Line cars are different (larger, etc.) but many of the Cruise lines in recent years have combined into a single company so they might be refering to a merger than the cars original history. http://photos.alaska.org//photos2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=7587&g2_serialNumber=2&g2_GALLERYSID=f5745fd211d6aa11f3640ca714e9da7b
