The family and I were in Wayzata MN (on Lake Minnetonka). In the lead was the 4-8-2 Milwauke Road 261 with a variety of smooth side passenger cars with a BNSF SD40-2 helper on the rear.

This is the 261 that is on a ten year lease here in Minnesota. Very cool to see this massive steamer in action.

Too bad I was not prepared with a camera [IMG]

If you ever get a chance to see steam up close and personal.......DO IT!!!!!

Yep, big steam up close is a very momorable experience, especially if you didn't grow up in that time frame...

I need to correct myself. The 261 is not a 4-8-2 but a 4-8-4 Northern from the Milwaukee Road.

Now what I need to see is a 2-8-8-2 or a 4-6-6-4 live in person.

    Very cool.

The only time I see steam though Galesburg is on Railroad Days. Or if the 261 is passing by on a rare occasion. The steam engine I usually see is Frisco 1522 during Railroad Days.

I just hoped you learned that you NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER go anywhere without a loaded camera. The nice thing about a steamer that's still active is you can bet that you will see it again. I just can't wait until SP 4449 comes down my way again.

Sad news for you Daylight Fans, 4449 is now Black and Silver with BNSF markings. This was done for the BNSF Employee Special. I'm sure it will return to it's Daylight Colors, when is the question.

its good to see a respectable paint job on it.now if only they would get it to the green and black paint, that would mean i need to buy a steam engine.

Re: BN 4-8-4 4449 should be repainted in to SP again in the near future, it came rolling through here (Bellingham WA)and even stopped on the Southside, unfortunately I was working, but saw pictures, looked good.

Oh yes, I forgot something. For people who do not have the camera on you (or in your car) at all times. Shame on you

:( You just never know what you might miss. Mine lives in the car, and if it goes out for any reason, it goes right back in.
