Via 902 leads #52 at Cobourg. Car #3461 is a first class car that has wireless internet and hence the unique paint scheme advertising this service. Notice the small "dome" on the roof. This is a spotting feature that indicates the wireless internet. 2005-03-11 at Cobourg
Those neat little irregularities in real life are nice because they give a modeler some slack. At least that's what I think.
Milne, That's a good way to distinguish the 8100s HEP I from the 4000 & 4100 HEP II cars. Also you not only got the red, white and blue Internet car but the only P42 (902) paint scheme variant!
Does anyone have any info about this car or scheme? Caught this last summer...just discovered this board. Would appreciate any info. I have more photos for anyone interested. Mike [ April 01, 2005, 11:26 AM: Message edited by: GN/CN fan ]
Via #1750 the Glenfraser. It was built by Canadian Car and Foundry in Montreal in 1954 for CN. It was named the Glenfraser by the British Columbia Railway (BCR) when it was part of their passenger roster from 2001 -2002. I believe the BCR used this car on their dinner trains. The present paint scheme is very unique. The car is going to be used between Toronto and Montreal from April 8 till May 29 on trains 68 (Friday) and train 69 (Sunday). First Class passengers can leave their assigned seats and use the car as a lounge. This car is part of Via Rails Priva (charter) fleet, and is listed as a lounge car designed for receptions. Sorry for the poor quality photo. Press Release re experimental lounge car service (Glenfraser) between Montreal and Toronto
I rode the Glenfraser on 2005/04/29 and the interior is incredible! They have done a great job fixing up this car.
Now that's the kind of POSH equipment I remember riding in the 40's and 50's!!!! I wish Amtrak provided lounge cars like this instead of the cold, dreary, uncomfortable cars they're currently running. Of course, first the US needs a government that acknowledges passenger rail is a public service and funds it accordingly. Second Amtrak needs to have management that understands class, and has an organization that can design and build cars that are attractive and inviting to the riding public....oh well.
