A short low res video showing an Atlas GP-7 hauling a couple of Athearn boxcars along my version of Guilford's Watertown line, then back to the yard. Filmed this morning.

Great video, but I don't know...

On the real line that GP7 should have sunk into the mud. :tb-wink:

Very nice work indeed Mike! Are those Athearn box cars custom or did they do a run of them?

    Thanks

Excellent, especially the very realistic trackwork.

Nicely done! This is one time where someone saying that track looks like crap is a GOOD thing. You could substitute any railroad for that Guilford unit, and it would fit.

    Thanks everyone.
Steve - Athearn did a run of them but they are hard to find. I was lucky enough to buy them off ebay as a pair about 4 months ago. I haven't seen another grey one on there since then.

I had fun with the longnose pliers bending the ends of the rails. There's even a short length of 22" curve in there. All the little segments are soldered together, and I forced some undulations into it as well.

My Proto 2000s don't want to know about it. The GP38-2 actually bottoms out on its fuel tank on one of the crests but it's a Guilford only line, and all my Guilfords are Atlas and they cope surprisingly well. It was a lot of fun to construct.

That was more prototypical near the end of the Watertown operation. Every time they went down they "planned" to derail - brought a second engine, had trackmen meet them down there, etc. The branch is all but abandoned now.

I must say this is excellent modeling work!

Thanks Mike. Guys like you, Mike Rose etc posting all this Guilford stuff everywhere have sparked an interest in me. Not like I'm going to switch from my beloved SP, but I could have a Guilford car or two come through now and again

You know what would be interesting is to see this from aboard the train. Any way you can rubber band your video camera to a flat car and stick it on the front of a train?

Hi PW&NJ I did a video some time back with my micro video cam pushed on a flat car ahead of the loco, but that was before the track was scenicked. I think it might be fun to do another - thanks for the suggestion

Excellent. That video almost makes me want to barf, it's so realistic. Can't wait to see the fully scenicked version! :)

Mebbe low res - definitely high realism.

    Mike,
Do Gulford geeps come equipped with barf bags? Great job! Kind of ironic how much modelling it takes to reproduce something that happens naturally in the real world.
