Rex obtained this photo of the Vienna, Illinois Big 4 depot from the National Archives.
They also provided me with a complete set of plans and construction drawings. Photo is dated 1915 -- four years before my Grandfather bid in the agency job there, where he would remain until he died in 1946. Note the wagon and team of horses to the right!

Wow. Fancy! I would guess that as the years went by, this extra woodwork was eventually removed?

I just love old structure photographs -- thank you Roger. Sometimes I feel that I can walk into the photo and imagine what an average day was like 100 years ago. Some of my favorite books are The Next Station Will Be series of Erie/WB&E/NYS&W/NY&LB depot photos all taken at the same time as Roger's picture. I can lose myself in these for hours.

Thanks Roger, for more history. Any chance that structure is still standing?

I don't live very far from there. The roadbed is now a cool bike trail with a tunnel along the way. Very creepy riding through it.

I don't think so. Almost all of the stations have been torn down.
