Rex obtained this photo of the Vienna, Illinois Big 4 depot from the National Archives. They also provided me with a complete set of plans and construction drawings. Photo is dated 1915 -- four years before my Grandfather bid in the agency job there, where he would remain until he died in 1946. Note the wagon and team of horses to the right! I just love old structure photographs -- thank you Roger. Sometimes I feel that I can walk into the photo and imagine what an average day was like 100 years ago. Some of my favorite books are The Next Station Will Be series of Erie/WB&E/NYS&W/NY&LB depot photos all taken at the same time as Roger's picture. I can lose myself in these for hours.
I don't live very far from there. The roadbed is now a cool bike trail with a tunnel along the way. Very creepy riding through it.
