For a Conductor, you must not be color blind, and somewhat close to 20/20-20/25 correctable. 20/20 correctable in distance for Engineer. They seem to care less if you can't read a news paper, but if you can't see that signal from far away...
"Railroad work?" BHSF-Fort Collins, you say "railroad work", but there are hundreds of different jobs on the railroad. Each job type has different requirements. If you mean Train and Engine Service, remember that only 10 to 15 percent of railroad employees are actually involved in running trains. More are involved in maintaining them and the railroad itself. I used to say "there are three types of railroad workers: those that spend the money, those that count the money, and those that find the money (marketing and sales)".
