Story from the BBC site: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/3788147.stm Voyager unit passing Stetchford station in Birmingham... [ 10. June 2004, 13:53: Message edited by: Martyn Read ]
Interesting..........so each unit is made up of 2 control cars on each end and 3 passenger cars in the middle? Good thing no one was injured.
Just goes to show that real trains are now copying model trains by breaking apart while traveling! At least we are still prototype!
Pat, they run a mixed fleet with some 4 car sets (2 cabs, 2 inners) and some 5 car like the picture, also some are built to tilt and some are not. The split was between two sets coupled together so nobody would be hurt between the units as there is no gangway at the set ends. The air brakes worked as designed and stopped both sets, but it's still not a good thing to have happen. This was also just round the corner from Dawlish, where seawater ingress into the dynamic brake grids of several of these caused chaos a couple of years back. Watash, should I be sending them a Kadee height gauge? This is another 5 car set passing Washwood Heath yard heading into Birmingham. [ 10. June 2004, 13:56: Message edited by: Martyn Read ]
