If any of our Trainboard readers has a layout based on the Wabash, let us know. We've got a ton of questions for ya! Thanks
Hey Bill- I obviously don't model the Wabash. But was trying to think of what type of power they had during the dieselized days. F units, GP's, and ??? Did they have any FA's or PA's? What did they use for yard switchers? BoxcabE50
I know they had FA's and the *BIG* FM trainmasters.....cool! And a great F unit paint scheme. One of the best in my book.
Right you are Martyn. In addition to the FA/Bs and H24-66s, road units were: GP7s, GP9s, F7A/Bs, GP35s and U25Bs. Passenger units included: E7s E8s and PA2s. As far as yard swichers go, the Wabash seemed to use a little bit of everything: GE44t, HH600, SW1s, SW8s, S1s, VO660s, VO1000s, S12s, S2s, S4s, NW2s, SW7s, SW9s, SW1200s, and FM H12-44s. So, as you can see Ken, they used quite a variety of yard switcher units. Hope this info helps.
Well..... I knew my knowledge of things Wabash was limited. But I had no idea how little my data base actually is.... For instance- I had no idea they'd purchased any U-boats. Any site on the web where I could see a picture? I'm wondering what the paint scheme was????? Possibly a solid color dark blue? Guess we aren't talking very much about a layout! BoxcabE50
Ken, correct!...the U-Boats and GP35s were delivered in the all blue scheme. When George Elwood's site is back up, around the 15th of July I believe, we can check it out for U25Bs.
I hadn't heard that George was going to actually get a site back up. Is this good news? I hope so! It is certain? BoxcabE50
Sounds like it's true, he's apparently had enough donations to cover the cost of a dedicated server for the site. He has a bit about it on the front page of the Fallen Flags site. I'm looking forward to it.
Martyn, I saw that same write-up. I'm in hopes that all of us, not just those who donated, will be able to access the photos after he's back up again. How do you interpret that part of it? Ken, yes it's good......no, great! news that the site will be back up once again. Babs...thanks for the WAB U25B info.
Barb- Hmmm. Where did you find this info? Maybe we can talk you into finding us some photos on the web as well? BoxcabE50
My understanding is that it will be a free to use service for everybody just as it was before, but as it's going to cost him $2000+ per year (can't remember the exact figures) to run I'd expect another request for donations next year as well. I know that one of the suggestions just after the site went down was to make it "pay per view", but I don't think he liked that idea. That's just my impression mind! I think that would have somewhat defeated the object of sharing the pictures. The most amazing thing (to me) about it is how long his previous host let him carry on building the site! With 2000+ visitors per day, all downloading things that must have been a massive bandwidth cost to them.
Ken.... finding good clear pictures of Wabash motive power and/or rolling stock on the web in a tall order indeed. There just aren't that many available. Even the WRHS is woefully short of good, clear color shots. Jerry Appleman's site has a few, but again not the variety you'd expect for a class 1. Even George Elwood's site doesn't have that many, considering the size of the Wabash. Good luck finding more!!
Thanks! The way you seem so able to track down these bits of info, we may need to change your name from LS to Lady Sherlock Holmes. Maybe you can help find an answer to my question in the Milw forum? BoxcabE50
Is it as hard to find views outside of the web? I should think that there'd be quite a few Wabash fans out there? BoxcabE50
Thanks Martyn......I was in hopes that was the case, but just wasn't sure. Now, you've put my mind at ease!!
Fallen Flags home George has started putting the photo's back in, scroll down to "the repost starts" He's done "A" so far, so he has a way to go before the Wabash pics come back...sorry
