Folks, I took the plunge and weathered a DRGW SD40T-2, and an SD50. The TM was a pain in the neck to reassemble, but the weathering job, basically a bunch of chalk, dullcote, and drybrushing--they look like they have spent a number of years grinding up and down the Tunnel District. I should have pics soon. I also weathered a MDC 50' gon, and added a load of MT low-pro wheelsets. I'll show it off later as well. [ 24. November 2004, 20:07: Message edited by: HemiAdda2d ]
Well, tonight I finished the other 2 TM's, pretty easy to do, actually, I dunno why I waited so long!! Maybe I'll do a coal train to match soon. I'll try to get pics tomorrow...
Woo-Hoo good onya Jere, post them pic's. Going to do my unit train this weekend as well as the rest of my tunnels, time permitting.
Bring them over Friday night, I might do my tunnels (lightly) as well Jerry, Hurry up and post some pics please really looking forward to seeing the results
Today, after work.... I did them a bit heavy, but I think they look proto. I have a pair that are unnumbered coming soon (when the pasenger consignment set sells) that will get a light dusting, and will pull the CZ till I can get some ABA PA's.
The lighting washed the dirt out a bit, they actually are filthier than they look. I'll let the pics tell the story: 4 light coal-service SD's drift back downgrade to Minturn, CO to await their next assignment, no doubt assisting another heavy coal train over 10,212-foot Tennessee Pass:
Neat stuff, Jeremiah! How about some dents in the end of the gondola, for those occasions where the second level of wheels went flying when switched a little hard? Or at least a tie-down strap? As heavy as they are in real life, round on round isn't very stable when bumped. I like the trees and ballasting a lot!
Hemi, Excellent work I really like the rust that appears of the Rio Grande lettering , did you use chalk to weather
Thanks guys! Chalks and drybrush. The dynamic brake burn is drybrush, as are some truck highlights, but all else is chalk, sealed with dullcote. Pete, what do you suggest to install a strap? I thought the same thing, but didn't know how to do it.
I like the the work a lot. Pete- Is that why my first wife kept on knocking me over every time she got close?
Hemi: The weathering of the loco's looks great. You did a nice job of weathering the wheel sets in the gondola.... Stay cool and run steam.....
Thanks guys! I used one of those brushes that the females use to apply makeup--to apply the chalks. Worked like a charm! Bob, The wheelsets were brush-painted with Polly Scale 'steam power black', and drybrushed in varying degrees with PS 'rust'. Lots of dullcote seals the deal.
Good stuff, nice job. Yeah there were never any DRGW -40T's out in the wild that I ever observed with factory fresh paint.
